Orissa overcame heavy pressure to draw their four-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match against Assam on the last day at North-East Frontier Railway Stadium in Guwahati today. But host Assam garnered 11 points, two more than Orissa by virtue of taking first-innings lead.
Chasing a challenging target of 267 for victory, Orissa rode on a half-century each by Harmohan Praharaj and captain Asjit Jayaprakasham to make 227 for eight in the second innings at stumps on the final day.
Earlier opting to bat, Assam mustered a competitive total of 246. In-form spinner Sushil Kumar Prasad was most successful Orissa bowler, taking six wickets for 80 runs. In reply, Orissa were all out for 230 with the help of a responsible knock of 91 by Ranjib Biswal.
In the second innings, Assam made 250. Prasad added four wickets to his first-innings tally to finish with a match haul of 10 wickets for 170. However, Sourajit Mohapatra was most successful Orissa bowler in the second innings, capturing five wickets for 93 runs.
